Staying Safe
TRANSITION & CRIME AWARENESS WORKSHOP
YEAR 5 & 6 - 30 PUPILS (1 CLASS) PER WORKSHOP
DURATION OF WORKSHOP 60 MINUTES
'Staying Safe' is a unique interactive 60 minute theatre workshop perfect for students about to experience the transition to secondary school. Through dramatic scenes, role play and various exercises the session looks at the forthcoming new school journey, one that may involve travelling alone or using public transport. The session aims to help improve self-esteem and offers practical solutions for young people to implement immediately in order to keep safe and recognise risk on the school journey and beyond.
The workshop tackles the challenges and fear of the ‘new school’ and delves into our human nature - "What we want, dictates our actions!".
There is the usual Wizard mix of comedy and fun as we explore a serious subject in our unique style, putting children at ease to contribute their thoughts and ideas in a safe environment.
Originally commissioned by the Brent Transport & Healthy Schools team we have been delivering it annually for over 20 years. We have actual tangible evidence that in the past the workshop has stopped an ongoing crime and prevented 4 others (that we know of) as well as being the ideal introduction to the process of becoming a more independent traveller and taking more responsibility for yourself and your property.
Producing high-quality theatre-in-education that engages staff and students is of paramount importance – this mission drives us forward. The cherry on the cake is that when we do such a great job, we receive multiple reviews testifying to that statement.
Every project delivers a different experience to those involved so it rewarding to hear first-hand what our audience took away with them. For some, our projects can be reflective and thought-provoking, for others they can install confidence and ignite passion. Please take a moment to read some reviews from past and present Wizard Theatre clients.
There was lots of good discussion, some very mature points raised after the workshop and reflection on how they would behave or act next year at secondary school, they felt more aware of strategies to protect themselves against potential dangers. The session was fantastic, the children were really engaged and enjoyed it.
