Marcus was born in Dorchester, moved to America, grew up on Guernsey, studied in Birmingham, has family in Canada, and now spends much of his time in Croatia. Had he thought about collecting Air Miles he'd be a rich man.
Marcus did his degree in Archaeology and Drama, and on leaving didn't know whether to Dig or Declaim. He would have been a perfect candidate for "Time Team", but Tony Robinson got there first. Instead, he launched into a career as a professional actor, playing a "slimy water creature" in a Schools Tour. Things moved swiftly uphill, as he was next cast as a "handsome Prince" (sic). In the many years following, he worked with The National Theatre, RSC, toured nationally as an Actor/Musician with the musical "Buddy!", as well as several tours with the highly esteemed Illyria theatre company...travelling from Lands End to John O’Groats.
Internationally, Marcus has toured several shows across Canada, as well as taking productions to New Zealand and Croatia. He is also an experience puppeteer, having trained at Cannon Hill Puppet Theatre, and having worked with Little Angel Puppet Theatre, as well as various European events.
Marcus now spends more time directing and writing...mainly because it allows him to spend more time at home with his family. However, he still struts and frets across the stage every so often, an waggles the occasional puppet. He also plays trumpet in The Soul Connection: a 10 piece blues band based in central England.
His numerous theatre credits include: ‘Prospero’ in THE TEMPEST, ‘Mercutio’ in ROMEO & JULIET and BUDDY in the West End and on to ur. With the National Theatre he played ‘Asaf’ in WICKED YAAR! As a freelance director he directed ALI BABA AND THE 40 THIEVES and keeping with that theme finished a long season performing for the RSC in ARABIAN NIGHTS in 2012.
Marcus has been involved in Wizard Theatre almost from the beginning and has written, performed and facilitated a number of projects with us in that time. He co-wrote and devised ‘On The Right Road’ and more recently ‘Taking the Lead’, part of the Junior Citizenship Scheme.
